Dear Braeside Families,
Happy Friday! We started the day with a Dance Party in the Learning Commons and things just got better from there. It is so nice to be able to start the day moving, smiling and laughing together as a school community.
Your child should have brought home a personalized invitation for our Thursday May 1st Celebration of Learning. Please ensure you complete the RSVP section and send it back to school. Your child will need to arrive at school at either 5:45 or 6:45 pm, depending on their group. The Celebration will start with whole group performances in the gym and then move to classrooms where students will share individual stories they have been working on as part of our Storytelling Residency. Some students are “group hosts” and may have brought home scripts to practice over the weekend. Please talk to your child directly and ask them what they will be sharing with you next week.
If you have not received an invitation for the evening, please reach out directly to your child’s teacher.
As you already know, our School Development Plan (SDP) this year focuses on improving students' achievement in literacy and that this year we have been focusing specifically on improving students’ writing skills. Our Oral Storytelling Residency with Jeff Stockton was intentionally selected to support this work. We know that when a child has a strong oral language foundation they are better equipped to organize and express their thoughts and ideas as well as demonstrate their understanding through writing. We have seen huge growth with our students during this residency with their abilities and confidence to share and express themselves and know that this is transferring into their writing skills.
We are currently in the thick of planning for the next school year. If you anticipate your child(ren) moving out of Braeside School next year, please let us know as soon as possible (email Ms. Blasken at jlbalsken@cbe.ab.ca).
Kindergarten registration is now open. Please visit this link for more information. If you require help with registration, please don’t hesitate to contact Ms. Blasken in the main office. If you have friends, family members or neighbours with children going into kindergarten next year please encourage them to register as well.
Please read through our updates from School Council. Your child will look forward to buying and receiving CandyGrams for and from their peers so please ensure they are prepared for that. (Grade 5 / 6 students need to purchase CandyGrams on April 29 as they will be at Outdoor School during the second week of sales).
Candygram Sales Start Next Week!
We will be selling Candy Bracelets for the students to purchase and send to their classmates and friends at the school. The bracelets will be sold during lunch on April 29 and May 6 for distribution on May 13. Bracelets will be sold for $1 each.
Mindful Parenting Presentation
Courtesy of the CBE's Council Engagement Grant, Council is excited to host a parent presentation from Amber Pavey on Mindful Techniques and Pragmatic Parenting Strategies on Thursday, May 29 at 6:30pm. Please RSVP via the QR code on the linked flyer. We look forward to seeing you there!
