Dear Braeside Families

We hope that everyone is staying warm during this very chilly week!!

It was great to see so many students dressed up for our spirit day today in red, white, pink, glitter and in sparkles.  Students were excited to start the morning with a dance party.

Please choose safety over convenience when dropping off and picking up your children at school.  This is especially important right now as the roads are snow-covered and icy.  You may have noticed Calgary City Police in front of the school last week.  They were here in response to many concerns that have been voiced about student safety during drop off and pick up issuing warnings and tickets.  We have been told that they will continue to be in front of the school for the next few weeks in unmarked cars processing tickets as necessary.  Please do not do U-Turns in front of the school and encourage your child to cross at the crosswalk.

Our Passion for Glass Residency was a HUGE success!!  All students enjoyed working with Ms. Anna and creating their own glass art piece.  Ms. Anna has now taken all the creations and will fire them in her studio and join them together to make a large mural.  Once this has been completed we will showcase the mural in the school.

We are looking forward to our first Braeside U class next Tuesday afternoon.  All students were placed in one of their top 4 courses selections.  On Tuesday afternoon we will start with a whole school assembly and then split into each of the courses.  Make sure to ask your child about their class on Tuesday.  Students and staff are excited to work with kids from different grades and try something new!  This will be a great opportunity to use our Growth Mindset skills and continue to explore our whole school inquiry question, “What’s our Story?”

We are thrilled about the upcoming Family Dance!  This was a great event last year and we know it will be again this year.  Tickets are $5 each and can be brought on Monday at lunch in the Learning Commons.  Please send cash with your student.  Here is some more information from our school council:

The school and school council are excited to announce that we will be holding a Family Dance on Thursday, February 20 from 5:30-7:30pm! Tickets purchased in advance are $5 per person and students can purchase tickets for themselves and their family members at lunch on February 4 and 10 (please send your child with cash to purchase tickets at school these two days). Tickets purchased at the door will be $7. We do have capacity limits, so please plan to get your tickets in advance so you don't miss out!

Pizza is available for purchase in advance through the Healthy Hunger system - please log in to order for your kiddo and other family members (Kindergarten students should be visible under the “staff” classlist). Drinks and glowsticks will be available for purchase at the event, and there are plans for an awesome face painting station!

We will need your help to make this a success - please consider signing up for a volunteer role here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0B4BABAB29A2F9C25-54360430-family#/

**Please note that all children will need to be accompanied by an adult**
