Good Afternoon Braeside Families

Happy Friday!  Students were very excited to talk about the interesting snow covering the ground as they came into school this morning.  One of the best things about being a teacher is “re-experiencing” things through a young set of eyes.

Over the year we have been exploring the question, “What’s Our Story?”  This work is directly linked to our Braeside Commitment to Truth and Reconciliation.  Staff have intentionally been planning and engaging students in activities meant to activate their spirits, bodies, hearts and minds.  This past week in Mrs. Green’s grade 5 / 6 class, students discussed the stories of their name or how they were named.  Students were excited and proud to share about themselves and where their name came from.  Many had very interesting anecdotes.  Talk to your child about why they were named what they were.  An individual’s name plays a key part in making up their identity.  Often names carry family history or give insight to important family stories.

Please take time to review our Braeside TRC Commitment on our website (link here)

The school and school council are excited to announce that we will be holding a Family Dance on Thursday, February 20 from 5:30-7:30pm! Tickets purchased in advance are $5 per person and students can purchase tickets for themselves and their family members at lunch on February 4 and 10 (please send your child with cash to purchase tickets at school these two days). Tickets purchased at the door will be $7. We do have capacity limits, so please plan to get your tickets in advance so you don't miss out!

Pizza is available for purchase in advance through the Healthy Hunger system - please log in to order for your kiddo and other family members. Drinks and glowsticks will be available for purchase at the event, and there are plans for an awesome face painting station!

We will need your help to make this a success - please consider signing up for a volunteer role here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0B4BABAB29A2F9C25-54360430-family#/

**Please note that all children will need to be accompanied by an adult**

Please don’t forget that John Ware’s Open House is next Thursday January 30 from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm.  Students and families will have an opportunity to visit classrooms, meet staff and learn about the different things they have to offer.

Please see John Ware's Open House page for more information.

As you already know, your child will be attending Outdoor School from May 6 – 8 (overnight).  Students are starting to get excited!  Woot!  Please plan on attending a mandatory parent meeting on April 10.  The fee (approximately $300) will be posted next month in your MyCBE account.  Please watch for that.  If you have any questions, please reach out to your child’s teacher.
