Dear Braeside Families

We hope that everyone is looking forward to the long weekend ahead.  Please don’t forget that there is no school tomorrow or Monday.

We cannot believe that students have already fundraised over 50% of our Jump Rope for Heart goal of $2000!  That is amazing!  Currently students have earned a skipping party at the end of May as well as an extra recess.  If we can meet the goal of $2000, students will earn a spirit day where they get to decide how the teachers dress-up as well as freezes at the skipping party.  Every student that registers to fundraise has their name put in for weekly draws.  At the skipping party all students registered will also have an opportunity to win “Principal for a Day”.  The student who won this last year loved his day in the office and was able to make some decisions that benefited the whole school!

Next Wednesday we are going to have a picnic with students at lunch.  They will have the opportunity to sit where they would like after they have checked in with their lunchroom supervisor and move straight to playing when they are done eating.  Students are encouraged to bring a small towel or mat to sit on and wear a hat that day as they will be outside longer than usual.  Students can leave the towel or mat at their coat hook as we will be looking to have a picnic lunch at least once a week until the end of the year.

Thank you to school council for the organization of the CandyGram this week.  They were distributed on Tuesday.  Students were very excited to receive their candy bracelets.

School Council is excited to be hosting Amber Pavey (https://www.presentpossibilities.ca/) on Thursday, May 29 at 6:30pm in the Learning Commons. Amber will be conducting a Wellness Workshop for Families with us and the session will cover topics such as:

  •  What is mindfulness?
  • How and why can it help?
  • Practices to improve well-being and how to support yourself and your children during challenging times.

We hope you will be able to join us for this valuable session - please RSVP via the QR code on the attached flyer to help give us a sense of the number of attendees.

Stay tuned next week for more information on our June 19 Year-End Family Picnic!

Enjoy the weekend,

Fiona Johnson and Melanie Bennett
