Dear Braeside Families,
We hope this finds you well and looking forward to the weekend.
As you know, this year staff and students are exploring the question, “What’s Our Story?” As part of this inquiry students are working to:
- explore and identify their personal story to activate their spirit, heart, body and mind
- make connections with quality literature that will hook them into discussions about personal stories
- share their personal story to build connections
In some places around the world, November is Family Stories month, and the grade 3 / 4 teachers have used this to inspire some connected lessons. They will be asking their students to share special memories about their families and then will be discussing:
- How has this memory shaped you or helped make you who you are?
- Why is this important to you?
The Family Stories Month website encourages families to build stronger relationships through the month of November by:
- Telling family stories
- Watching old home movies, and
- Creating a new family tradition
Students love to share about their families and what they get to do with them outside of school and we look forward to hearing about this as we continue working through, “What’s Our Story?”
We will be honoring Remembrance Day with a school wide assembly run by our grade 3 / 4 students on Wednesday November 6th at 10:30 in the gymnasium. Families are welcome to attend (If you or a family member would like to attend, please email me at mabennett@cbe.ab.ca so we know how many chairs to set up). Each class will be contributing a wreath and displaying a piece of connected art.
The School Council Real Trees Fundraiser is up and running! Please visit, the Real Trees website to order a tree. Orders will be taken until December 1 and trees will be available for pick-up at the Winter Festival on December 5.
School Council is hosting their AGM next Tuesday November 5 at 6:30 pm in the Learning Commons. As has been shared this month, almost every current member has a child in grade 6 and will be leaving at the end of the year. We need new members!! Please consider joining!! Volunteer time runs between 2 – 4 hours a month and makes a HUGE impact on all students at Braeside. Please visit the School Council website for more information.
