Dear Braeside Families,

Happy Friday!

We were reminded this week just how much students love to get messy and try new things. Young children love to explore through art and painting projects and creating and engaging in art can be an excellent way to introduce and reinforce concepts from kindergarten to grade 6.  When visiting grade 6 students this week painting solar eclipse and stary night scenes we were not surprised to see how much fun they were having.  The students were eager to share what they were learning about and what they were doing.

We have a fun and exciting residency starting at our school on October 21. Alien Inline will be joining us and all classes from Kindergarten to grade 6 will be enjoying three, 60-minute sessions with the instructors. They will be learning new skills while building on those they may already have. It is recommended that students bring their own safety helmets. Knee and elbow pads along with wrist cards will be supplied by Alien Inline as they know they are safe and have passed inspection. Safety is very important so as to avoid injury. Your child’s teacher will also be sending out a School Messenger message with some additional information and the dates which your child will be participating so that they can be dressed accordingly. A big thank you to our School Council for providing the funds needed to provide this residency experience for our students.

Speaking of School Council please visit their website as they have lots of news to share.  First off – we need you!!!  The School Council is looking for new volunteers to join the council as most current members have children in grade 6 and will be moving on at the end of this school year.  School Council members generally volunteer 2 – 4 hours a month and have a HUGE positive impact on all students at Braeside.  The council positions are outlined on their website – please visit it for more information or reach out directly to Kyla Anderson at braesidechair@gmail.com

On December 5 School Council will be hosting a Winter Fair!  Save the Date! The School Council will be selling hot chocolate and student crafts and artwork.  Also, Mrs. Munro is starting a division 1 choir (forms went home this week and need to be returned by Wednesday if your child wants to participate) and the choir students will be showcasing their skills that night with a short presentation.  Prior to the Fair, School Council will also be selling Christmas Trees, and these will be picked up during the evening.

On December 13 School Council is hosting a White Elephant Sale.  Students will have the opportunity to purchase (small fee) a gift for a family member and have it wrapped to take home as a surprise.  They are now accepting gently used donations for the sale as well as wrapping paper.  Items to donate would include:

  • Books
  • Scarves, necklaces and bralettes
  • Ties
  • Small household decorations (e.g. picture frames, candles, vases)
  • Stuffies

Please bring your items to the front office.  If you have any questions about what to donate please ask!

Enjoy the weekend!

Fiona Johnson and Melanie Bennett
