Dear Braeside Families
We hope that this finds everyone feeling refreshed after that very rainy Thursday!
This month our School Mantra is, ‘Together we are Better’. Staff and students have been engaging in a variety of lessons and activities to explore and develop a deeper understanding of what this means. For example, many teachers have been sharing picture books like:
- We’re Better Together by Eileen Spinelli
- Together we Can by Caryl Hart and Ali Pye
- We are Together by Britta Teckentrup
If you are visiting a public library this month, look for these books and read them with your child (ren). Reading picture books together is a great way to open conversations about complex concepts. Students and staff have also been participating in many community building activities. One that stood out was the ‘Note Card’ activity that the grade 5 / 6 students were doing this morning. The students were put into groups and challenged to find things that connected them to one another. Each time they found something they got a cue card. They then used the cards to try and build the tallest tower. The room was buzzing with excitement as the students worked through the activity. Our Terry Fox Run will be held Monday September 16 starting at 12:45. Grade 5 / 6 students will be hosting an assembly in the gym followed by a whole school 30-minute run in the field. Teachers have shared through Instagram how students and families can donate (if they want) to the event. Visit this link for more information about the Terry Fox Foundation. We are proud to share that we had set a school fundraising goal of $500 and we’ve already met and surpassed this goal!! Our students have already raised over $800!! Way to go Braeside students!!
We are excited to share that we will be running a Scholastic Book Fair the week of September 23. During the week students will be visiting (and able to purchase items if they wish) the Book Fair in room 102. It will then be open to families on Thursday September 27th from 12:30 pm to 6:30 pm and on Friday September 28th from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm. Please stop by! Ms. Ranger (our librarian) is looking for some volunteers to help her out on Thursday and Friday. If you are able to help, please email her directly at plranger@cbe.ab.ca.
The School Council is still looking for volunteers to support their Hotdog Fundraiser during our Meet the Teacher Event. Please consider volunteering!! Read the attached flyer for more information and the SignUp to volunteer.

All families need to visit their child’s MyCBE – Online Forms parent portal to complete this year’s required forms (Demographic Verification updates, Annual Volunteer and Media Release). We appreciate families doing this as quickly as possible. If you need support with setting up or accessing your child's account please reach out directly to Ms. Blasken (jlblasken@cbe.ab.ca).
This year, our teachers will use Instagram to share what is happening in the classroom as well as important announcements and information. Please ensure that you follow your child’s account.

Please remember that soft entry occurs each morning from 7:50 am to 8:00 am. Students should be in their rooms ready for learning and engaging in tasks right at 8:00 am. If your child arrives past 8:00 am they should go through the front office and check in with Ms. Blasken. If you know your child is going to be late or away from school please email your child’s teacher and Ms. Blasken (jlblasken@cbe.ab.ca) or call the school at (403)777-8470.
